DR. MARGARET MCNELIS, OD, FAAO

OPTOMETRIST

Dr. McNelis received her doctor of optometry from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. She completed a residency in hospital based optometry at North Chicago VA Medical center, with a concentration in medical optometry and low vision rehabilitation. She joined a multi-doctor ophthalmology practice where she specialized in treating disorders of the cornea and fitting specialty contact lenses. Subsequently, she served as Clinical Director at Doctors for Visual Freedom, providing laser vision correction to thousands of patients over several years. The last decade Dr. McNelis has enjoyed developing her private practice and serves a diverse community of all ages and vision needs. She is committed to providing compassionate and comprehensive eye and vision care to all of her patients. She is a contributing author of several chapters in the textbook, Primary Eyecare in Systemic Disease, Adamczyk et al., and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, Cornea and Contact lens section. She is also a member of the IOA, AOA and AAO, as well as a member of the American Diabetes Association and Ocular Nutrition Society. She is married and has 3 children. Her many hobbies include music, cooking and gardening, and raising chickens.

DR. KARINA FULTON, OD

OPTOMETRIST

Dr. Karina Fulton, is an optometrist with over a decade of clinical eye care experience. Her education includes a four year undergraduate degree from Lake Forest College, then attending a four year graduate school program for Doctor of Optometry degree at the Illinois College of Optometry and an additional year long training in Ocular Disease treatment at a Veterans Affairs Hospital. Dr. Fulton’s goal at McNelis Family Eye Care is to help patients create a connection between their medical and eye health. During the eye exam, Dr. Fulton asks questions about the status of medical health in order to give more customized eye care advice, since so many conditions (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, inflammation in the body) impact the eye health. Dr. Karina Fulton has strong experience with challenging soft contact lens fitting, helping find the most accurate prescription based on occupation vision demands, dilated eye exams to thoroughly examine retina, dry eye management, and vision therapy. Dr. Fulton also speaks Russian and Spanish, so you can specify a preference for speaking your native language if that is most comfortable to you during the exam.

Khatija S. Madani, OD

OPTOMETRIST

Dr. Madani is a dedicated optometrist and a proud American Optometry Association (AOA) member. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2020 and earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Chicago College of Optometry in 2024.

During her time in school, she was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society for two years and participated in vision screenings at local churches, reflecting her commitment to serving the community.
With a strong foundation in patient care, Dr. Madani is fluent in English and has a good understanding of Urdu, allowing her to connect with a diverse range of patients.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Madani enjoys exploring new coffee shops, spending time with her family, and listening to podcasts. These interests help her maintain a warm and empathetic approach to her work and life.
